You may know her as the “Queen of Rockabilly” or the “First Lady of Rockabilly” from back in the mid-50’s; it’s Wanda Jackson! Inspired by her friend Elvis Presley, this legend combines country and rockabilly which has led to her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an Early Influence.
Listen to one of her hits below:
The Cactus Blossoms
The Cactus Blossoms consist of two Minneapolis brothers, Page Burkum and Jack Torrey, who had their humble beginnings at a residency at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Cactus Blossoms collaborated with the talented JD McPherson to create their alluring 2016 album, “You’re Dreaming.”
“The Cactus Blossoms’ creative turns of phrase, gorgeous harmonies and ageless sound tell me that this is just the beginning for these brothers.” – NPR (Read more)
Their song “Mississippi” was featured on an episode of ‘Twin Peak: The Return’ Watch their official music video below:
You may recognize Texas-based Jesse Dayton from his acting, screenplays, and directorial role in “Zombex,” but what he does best is shred his guitar to create a country-infused Americana sound. Dayton has worked with country legends like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Bush, and Willie Nelson. He didn’t stopped there; he has put out five solo records, one duet record, and one live record all on his own label, Stag Records.
You’ll get a blast to the past when you listen to “Daddy Was a Baddass” from Jesse Dayton’s “The Revealer”:
Whiskey Shivers isn’t your typical bluegrass band. They push genres by throwing in Americana and punk rock spirit into their songs; they call it: “trashgrass.” Whiskey Shivers’s darkly comical lightheartedness definitely makes them shine above the rest of the crowd. If all that doesn’t get you hooked, they appeared in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ as a country band named, “Saddle Up.”
They’re also loved by their fans for their creative music videos. Check out their video for “Reckless”:
Scott H. Biram
Scott H. Biram also known as “The Dirty Old One Man Band” draws his sound from old time blues, country, and bluegrass music as you might figure from his vintage guitars and road worn amplifiers. From Austin, Texas, this multi-instrumentalist has an edgy take on the classic country acoustic vibe.
Yielding only a vintage acoustic Gibson, Biram may be a one-man band, but he’s as captivating (and loud) as any five-piece combo out there. – Texas Monthly (Read more)
Take a listen to a track from his latest album, “The Bad Testament”:
JD Wilkes with the Legendary Shack Shakers Unplugged
The charismatic frontman and blues-harpist, JD Wilkes is backed by South’s most eclectic musicians: Legendary Shack Shakers. If gothic hillbilly blues and rock n’ roll, excites you, you won’t be the only one that is impressed. JD and the Legendary Shack Shakers have been compared to Iggy Pop and have been featured on some HBO shows like ‘True Blood.’
