Soft Sex, brainchild of Denna Thomsen (Sia dancer/choreographer) and Jasmine Albuquerque (of WIFE), is a social experiment dance party. It’s a visual playground of absurdity, punk movement, sonic saturation, and poetic tyranny. Constantly running against the forces of time, the dancers literally break free from their sculptural confines to find a collective synchronicity that is unsettled, unforgiving, and relentlessly engaging. Performers interact with the crowd throughout the night as a combination of live music and DJ sets keep your souls moving!! Dance and drink. Get fucked and think. Sweat and stink. SOFT SEX is coming for you.

DENNA THOMSEN is a maverick performer, choreographer and artist who has made a significant impact with how dance is used in the entertainment industry. She has paved the way in creating a unique vocabulary of movement that is known for evoking emotion and questioning the status quo. Originally from Nebraska, she received a BA from Colorado State University and moved to Los Angeles in 2007.
As the assistant to internationally recognized choreographer Ryan Heffington, Denna has been involved with creating some of the most impactful dance moments of the past decade. With Mr. Heffington, Denna has worked with artists and directors including SIA, Florence and the Machine, Alma Ha’rel, Vincent Haycock, Daniel Askill, Floria Sigismondi, and Martin de Thurah, among others. Working with Mr. Heffington has furthered her career and led her to choreograph independently for music artists such as Tove Lo, Tesla Boy, Mishcatt, and more. She has also collaborated on recent commercial campaigns for Sonos Speakers, Jockey, and Google.
Denna is also the co-founder of AXIOM Dance Theatre, which utilizes various aspects of theater and stagecraft to push the boundary with the dancers she’s creating on and the audience watching. Her choreography is known for its strong sense of narrative, leading with emotion, and breaking the norm.
Jasmine Albuquerque is a dancer, choreographer, actress and visual artist based in Los Angeles. She has performed with companies such as Hysterica, Blue13 Bollywood, Collage Dance Theater and Ryan Heffington's Fingered. Other performances include TEDx SoCal, KTCHN, We Are The World, Hazm, and Hecuba at venues including the Hammer Museum, The Ford, The Orpheum, MOCA, El Rey, Masonic Lodge, Art Basel, Miami, Frequency Festival UK, Istanbul Light Festival, Desert Daze and LACMA. Jasmine can be seen in season two of Transparent and has choreographed for Samsung, Devendra Banhart, Seeb, Monica Dogra and Bob Wayne, and danced in videos for Rodrigo Amarante, Ry X, The Acid, Jessica Tonder, MIKA, Laura Marling, Verve Records, Fitz & The Tantrums, Beck and Morcheeba. She trained at UCLA, The Edge and in Budapest, Hungary where she went to school. She is a founding member of WIFE which she finds infinitely inspiring. Her class is “a quirky mix of jazz, contemporary and ballet” that emphasizes ease and grace and is set to an indie/electro soundtrack.
Sonic Butterfly by Andrea Brook
Sonic Butterfly is a 26 string long-string instrument designed and built by Andrea Brook and Javad Hashemi. The 2 resonating chambers look like butterfly wings with 2 full octaves of strings shooting out on each side of the performer. Sonic Butterfly Productions is based on the concept of transformation, like the butterfly, re-creating ourselves into the full expression of who we truly are with all of our beauty shining. These transformational experiences are more than performances, as they engage the audience, inviting them to be participants, allowing them to transcend limitation and inspiring their truth, their creativity, their authentic self to fly.
