Barrows fuses atmospheric and heavy music in the form of sprawling concept albums. The band creates entrancing, circling riffs and rhythms intercut with explosive peaks and brilliant subtleties.
"Red Giant", the sophomore album by Barrows is fittingly massive in thematic scope as it is in sonic heft. An album about the life of a star and what happens after it dies, the band depicts the stages of celestial death throughout the album's five epic tracks.
"Imprecari Island", the debut album by Barrows, is an intense musical jouney about a group of sailors who get shipwrecked on a cursed island. Their shipwreck, time on the island, and eventual escape is portrayed through the first eight tracks and is followed by the epic finale that takes place back out at sea, "Pirates".
Based out of Echo Park, m o t h d r o p s is the post-apocalyptic psych pop outfit which popped into being when Andrew Giurgiun and Jake Stein ritualistically sacrificed a beanie baby over a burning pile of pokemon cards. Having given worthy tribute to the Cosmic Bringer of Giddiness, Tickles and Vibes, they could finally alchemize and glamour the most colorful of sounds, resulting in a sonic array of passion and kittens, which still rains to this day in various locations over the Pacific Ocean. Reconciling the sonic whirlpool of Beach House, Serge Gainsbourg, and Ariel Pink, at a m o t h d r o p s show you'll be bombarded with tunes that spend years wandering the depths of your ear canal, only to lose faith in themselves and question their meaningless existence as sonic shadows.
