Motown On Mondays LA
J.rocc (Stones Throw, Beat Junkies)
Hailed as the world's best club DJ, J.ROCC continues to capture music enthusiasts around the globe. In 1992, Jason Jackson, internationally known as J.Rocc, launched his vision of forming a DJ crew comprised of talented musicians, by introducing to the world Southern California's first turntable band - the Beat Junkies. A prized accomplishment enthusiastically received by worldwide audiences, J.Rocc continues to invent musical styles that display his creative expertise. Highly recognized for his funky showcases and original arrangements, J.Rocc has clearly distinguished his place in music history.
In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib's live shows since the early 2000's, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group's live events, collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla and can seen around the world as DJ for Mos Def & Talib Kweli's Blackstar.
Born in Fresno, California and raised in Bakersfield, Mr Choc's success comes from a lifelong passion for music. He got his entrée into the culture as a break-dancer but was also intrigued by the power the DJ had over the crowd. He focused on developing his DJ skills, and by 1993 he started two three-hour radio mixshows (one on Bakersfield and one in Arizona). He specialized in playing quality music that didn't get maximum exposure. He just wanted to make sure that great music that wasn't getting its fair share of airplay still had a platform to be heard. In 1995, he was picked up by Los Angeles' Power 106 and broadcast in three cities. In 1999 Choc was promoted to mixshow coordinator for Power 106, and during his seven-year tenure, the station had the number one mixshow for three consecutive years.
In 1996 Choc became a member of the Beat Junkies Crew (Rhettmatic, Melo-D, Shortkut, Babu), one of the most respected DJs crew in the world. Gaining membership in this exclusive crew had a profound impact on Choc: "it showed me that despite everything I had learned in DJing at that point, there was still a lot more to learn. It also made me love my craft a little more because I was finally surrounded by people who understood it and loved it just as much as I did."
Today, as Director of Scratch-LA, Choc imparts his knowledge on to hungry and eager students. He also continues to hold down multiple residencies and parties throughout SoCal.
Old skool hardcore DJ and producer originally from Bournemouth, now based in Brighton. Promoted the well known south coast events "Oblivion" from 2002-2006.

Black Shakespeare is a co-founder of the LA nightclub, Chocolate Bar, and has music in his genes. A cousin of bassist Robbie Shakespeare of Sly & Robbie, he also did his first assisting engineering gig with legendary producer Scientist.
Born in Jamaica, he moved with his family to New York City , where Shakespeare became involved with Hip Hop, toasting with host Jamalski at S.O.B.'s open mic venue.
In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles where he met producer Aurelito Mercado, a Chicago transplant who hosted parties that guested such pioneering Dee Jays as Marvski and Cut Chemist. where people like the Black Eyed Peas, Breakestra, and Ozomatli just came to hang.
Aurelito and Shakespeare formed the I&I Sound System, and started Chocolate Bar in early 1997, with original DJs Cokni ODire, DJ Higher, Daz, and T-Lee. It was Mercado who, around 2000, dreamed up the idea of the Irie Ice Cream Truck, outfitting an old ice cream truck with a sound system and bringing the good vibes and deep tunes to the folks.
Shortly after the Ice Cream Trucks debut in early 2003, it was featured on the cover of XLR8R magazine, as well as a Saul Williams album cover. Mercado and Shakespeare soon began receiving invitations. The I&I Sound System has since become a presence at festivals like the Sunset Junction, Nocturnal Wonderland, Electric Daisy, and Abbot Kinney Festivals; the system even gigs at museums, high schools and colleges.
The LA resident is a featured artist on albums by The Lions (2) (Ubiquity Records and Stones Throw Records), as well as on the "Various - Rewind! 5" compilation album (Ubiquity Records).
His 2008 creation HARD WIRE (distributed by CD Baby) is an a big mixture of music of what he calls Dub Hop. A bringing together of Dancehall and Dub Reggae with deep nitty gritty Hip Hop beats. Working along side producers Josh 1 and Craig S. and top ranking vocalist from Redbud Records Rob Symeonn and selector /deeJay Mikey Assassin.
