Moonlight Graham is an American folk rock band from Orange County, CA composed of Weslsey Chavez (guitar and vocal), Trey Everett (drums), Andrew Border (banjo and guitar), Jordan Sachs (bass), and Alyssa Gantt (violin). MG was formed after a handful of songs were written by Andrew and Wes specifically to play at a close friend’s fundraiser. The two then decided to join forces with friend and guitarist, Jordan Sachs, booking shows as a folk trio featuring a bass, an acoustic guitar, and a banjo. The trio eventually added violinist Alyssa Gantt, before finalizing the quintet with the addition of drummer Trey Everett in March of 2015.
Shortly after solidifying their 5-piece, the band began recording a 7 track, debut EP, “We Made This,” featuring recordings of songs the band had already regularly featured live. Guitarist Andrew Border recorded all instruments in a seven day period before facilitating all of the mixing and mastering himself. Appropriately titled, “We Made This” was their first entirely self-recorded, self-produced and self-released album.
A year later, the band began work on another self-produced set of songs, this time a debut LP entitled, “Hurry Up and Wait." The 12-album, released in 2016, featured brand new tracks including, “Okay,” “Til I Fall,” and “Stubbornness,” the first track written primarily together as a newly formed 5-piece. After the release of “Hurry Up and Wait,” Moonlight Graham was introduced to producer Ryland Steen, who they teamed up with on their next release, their single, “Easy.” Recorded entirely at Pot O’ Gold Recordings in Orange, CA, the single was mixed and mastered by Ryland, and producing partner, and audio engineering legend, David Irish.
After the experience of recording and releasing “Easy” together, Ryland and Moonlight Graham began work in the studio on the groups’ next release, their most recent EP, “Songs for Hunting Scorpions.” The EP, released in 2017 & 2018 as four individual singles, is streaming everywhere now.
For it's members, Moonlight Graham has become more than just an opportunity to play music, it has become an opportunity to create art and tell stories with close friends, sharing it with anyone who will listen. Their intensely diverse musical palette is evident, and revealed when listening to their catalogue. Their frenetic, fun live shows and band's mission statement have a very specific goal: to be heard, and entertaining, with lyrics that can be understood, and melodies that can be remembered.
