Northeast Baltimore’s Shordie Shordie is the closest thing the city has to a Lil Uzi Vert-like character. When looking at the artists who have gotten citywide support over the past few years, he is surely the most flamboyant and eccentric. Shordie’s dances and scratchy harmonies have created some of the best entertainment to come out of the city in recent memory. When it comes to making amazing hooks he is undefeated, gaining him his hilarious but fitting nickname, Captain Hook. Shordie has mastered the art of engaging with his fans while still remaining to keep the suspense alive by posting and deleting Instagram snippets of songs off his debut project - Captain Hook. The songs are mostly comprised of almost alien-sounding trap ballads about failed attempts at love. The clips are so enticing that fans take it upon themselves to upload compilations of them to YouTube to hold them over until he finally drops.
Shordie finally gave the people what they wanted with his 9 track release on December 08, 2018. Since the release, Shordie has created an impressive amount of buzz around his tape as a whole but the contagiously catchy record “(Betchua) Bitchuary” is what has led to Shordie’s viral outbreak. The record is an unapologetically truthful anthem that resonates both with women and men making the bouncy dance irresistible. The bay-area sound paired with the insanely quotable hook has caught the attention of people all over the country leaving people pleasantly surprised. Following the “(Betchua) Bitchuary” Fader premiere the sole visual from the project hit over 100K views in a matter of 2 weeks. With opening sets for trending names such as Ja Rule and Shoreline Mafia and stamps from celebrities like 03greedo, DJ Mustard, Slim Jimmi, Trouble, Snapp Dogg and athletes like Todd Gurley of the L.A. Rams who named Shordie in his “Top 3 rappers” during a Superbowl LIII press conference, the video has taken over the internet. Shordie’s rapid virality has been beyond intriguing. This week alone, Shordie has now gained 15 celebrity endorsements and two appearances (in one day) on Say Cheese Digital’s Instagram which has set a spike across all of Shordie’s platforms. His Instagram followers have increased by almost 9K this week alone, while the video is now sitting at nearly 14.5M views (and counting), averaging over 200K views a day on YouTube.
