    Listen: Kokoko!’s Debut Album “Fongola

Kokoko!’s July release of their debut album Fongola saw them combine traditional African sounds with more familiar indie-punk palettes. The result sounds like an urgent and unpredictable amalgamation of black midi, UK free jazz revivalists Sons Of Kemet, and Sung Tongs-era Animal Collective. Kokoko! work with handmade instruments crafted from recycled materials, leading to a somehow even more wonderfully unfamiliar sound. Though their record is a compelling sonic journey, the yellow poncho clad quintet is best experienced live. Check out Fongola below after you get your tickets here to see Kokoko! October 8th at The Echo!

Watch: Jay Som’s New Video for ‘Tenderness’

Los Angeles DIY sweetheart Jay Som is back with a video for her recent track ‘Tenderness’! The excellent single precedes her album Anak Ko, out August 23rd. The ‘Tenderness’ video, directed by Chicago psychedelic video crew Weird Life, is an overcast honey colored summer dream. The visuals pair live performance footage with geometric light tricks that evoke the cover of Toro Y Moi’s 2010 debut ‘Causers Of This’. The pleasantly gauzy cinematography, shot by Jackson James, brings to mind the now iconic 35mm photography of Natalie Somekh or the childlike playfulness of Ginger Root’s ‘Mahjong Room’ video. The track itself is

    Watch: Seratones New Music Video

The Louisiana soul-rock group spilled a thing or two about their upcoming sophomore album Power in an exclusive Billboard interview. Following a three year slumber since their last material, “Gotta Get To Know Ya” marks a triumphant return for the southern quintet. Frontwoman A.J. Haynes’ tells Billboard that the lead single off Power “encapsulates my ever-lingering anxiety about global warming and my electric need to dance in order to escape said existential doom.” Accompanying the single is a visually entrancing music video directed by Danielle Calodney.
