Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, AKA Detroit Swindle, have been on a roll lately. Following the success of their debut album, ‘Boxed Out’, the Dutch duo is back with a fresh, new album. With rave reviews from publications such as DJ Mag, where it earned a 9/10 rating, and Resident Advisor, who can’t get enough of the album’s single, Flavourism, ‘High Life’ dissipates any potential for a sophomore slump. Here’s what DJ Mag had to say about the upcoming album:
They go all out on [High Life], with an effort defined by its lush embrace of instrumentation, allowing the duo to transcend just channeling their house music roots for an album’s worth of material that, pleasingly, sounds just as fine on your stereo as it will on one of their DJ sets.
‘High Life’ hasn’t been the only project Detroit Swindle has been working on recently. Beyond releasing the record on their own label, Heist Recordings, they also have recently collabed with Tom Misch (listen here), were featured on a Phonica instore vinyl only set (watch here), and have been taking over Worldwide FM radio show, Global Roots (explore here).
See Detroit Swindle live at the the Echoplex Friday June 8 (get tickets here), and don’t forget to listen to the new album when it drops May 28! Or cheat a little bit and check out their mini-mix on soundcloud here… rules were meant to be broken, weren’t they?
