The Black Madonna
The Black Madonna
Dance music needs riot grrrls. Dance music needs Patti Smith. It needs DJ Sprinkles. Dance music needs some discomfort with its euphoria. Dance music needs salt in its wounds. Dance music needs women over the age of 40. Dance needs breastfeeding DJs trying to get their kids to sleep before they have to play. Dance needs cranky queers and teenagers who are really tired of this shit. Dance music needs writers and critics and academics and historians. Dance music needs poor people and people who don't have the right shoes to get into the club. Dance music needs shirts without collars. Dance music needs people who struggled all week. Dance music needs people that had to come before midnight because they couldn't afford full admission. Dance music does not need more of the status quo.
Matthew Dear
Matthew Dear
Matthew Dear is a shapeshifter, oscillating seamlessly between DJ, dance-music producer, and experimental pop auteur. He is a founding artist on both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He writes, produces, and mixes all of his work. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none, now nearly 20 years into his kaleidoscopic career, with five albums and two dozen EPs plus millions of miles in the rearview of his biography.

Dear kicked off 2017 as a selector, DJing regularly and contributing a deeply considered and personal mix to !K7 Records' long established DJ-Kicks series. This was bookended by a number of releases through his techno guise, Audion. Dear hadn't shared material under his own name since his 2012 LP, the multi-colored Beams, which was preceded by the critically acclaimed avant-pop albums Black City, Asa Breed, and Leave Luck To Heaven. This return to his artistic id, apart from his other projects' egos, makes "Modafinil Blues" momentous, a prodigal shift inward to a dark and playful psyche.
Tensnake
Tensnake
Born in Hamburg in 1975, Marco grew up listening to disco, soul, boogie, funk and
80s pop. As he grew older he went through a brief Mod phase before finding and
embracing more dancefloor-inspired influences from Larry Levan to Junior Boys
Own, Romanthony to Masters of Work. After starting the Mirau Musik label with
friends in 2005, Marco released his first record "Around The House." He made his
commercial recording debut on the Mirau Musik label with his Restless EP in 2006,
which he followed up with I Say Mista in 2007. In addition, he released EPs on the
labels Players Paradise (Dust, 2007), Radius Records (Fried Egg, 2007), and
Endless Flight (Keep Believin’, 2008). In 2007 he also founded the label Glossy
Edits, which quickly gained a great reputation amongst music collectors.
Tensnake’s first taste of critical acclaim came with the release of his "In the End (I
Want You to Cry)" EP on the label Running Back in 2009. The EP was voted #1
on djhistory.com’s end-of-the-year list, and was the driving force behind Tensnake’s
breakthrough success.
Launching even further onto the scene with his track ‘Coma Cat’ in 2010, Tensnake
smashed dance floors worldwide and earned himself a name as a game-changing
dance pioneer. Called “highly precise modern disco” by the New York Times and
“infectious” by Idolator, Spin said that “Tensnake helped pave the way for the
current deep- house revival.” In 2013, Tensnake was asked to deliver an Essential
Mix by BBC Radio1's Pete Tong, thus further cementing his status within the scene.
Released in 2014, his debut album ‘Glow’ represented a milestone in a career
which had already traversed the world’s greatest dance floors, and which earned
Tensnake his towering reputation as one of house and disco’s leading producers.
This debut album features an impressive range of collaborators, including the
almighty Nile Rodgers, three time Grammy-winning Stuart Price (AKA Jacques Lu
Cont), Jamie Lidell, MNEK, Fiora, and more. ‘Love Sublime,’ the
album’s 3rd single, is a delicious slice of disco pop adorned with the unmistakable
guitar groove of Nile Rodgers and the beguiling vocals of Fiora. It follows the two
previously released album tracks, ‘58 BPM,’ a lush, down-tempo disco jam, and
sumptuous house cut and Beatport Top-5 hit ‘See Right Through’ (both featuring
Fiora.)
Since Glow's release, Tensnake has gone on to launch his latest artist label, True
Romance, where he has released tracks from forward-thinking artists such as
Andre Hommen, Prison Grande, Charlie Sputnik, Sunrise Highway, Magic Touch,
Larse, and more. He also continues to release successful EP’s of his own work on
True Romance, including 2015’s Keep On Talking / The Walk EP, 2016’s Desire
and Freundchen EP's, and his latest 2017 EP, Machines. Tensnake's repertoire of
remix work has also grown substantially over the years, with official remixes
commissioned from him by Junior Boys, The Faint, Boys Noize, Aloe Blacc, Azari &
III, Scissor Sisters, Goldfrapp, Friendly Fires, Little Dragon, Tuff City Kids, Lana Del
Rey, Pet Shop Boys, London Grammar, and more.
Moon Boots
Moon Boots
When Moon Boots hits the booth, he’s got one mission: to give you the best night of your life. Whether playing at iconic clubs like Chicago’s Smart Bar — where he cut his teeth watching legends like Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter — or the world’s biggest festival stages, he gives people a release they’ll remember long after the party’s over.

Born in Brooklyn, Moon Boots’ (birth name: Pete Dougherty) musical obsession started not long after he could walk. His early love of piano lead to a passion for keyboards and synthesizers. Teenage nights lost in the work of Daft Punk, A Tribe Called Quest and Herbie Hancock followed. Then came college years at Princeton University, where he shelved an Engineering degree to dive into the musical abyss.

Knowing what he was meant to do, he moved to the house music epicenter of Chicago, where he tirelessly passed out demos to local DJs and scoured the web for like-minded people with whom he could share and expand on his sound. He played in a synth-pop trio whose demo caught the attention of Lupe Fiasco, and after a stint touring alongside the hip-hop icon, Dougherty went back to DJing with a renewed focus.

The stars aligned when he had a chance encounter with Perseus, founder of an adventurous new label, French Express. A fellow junkie and fan of French House and R&B-infused dance music, Perseus became a friend and mentor, the Splinter to Boots' Donatello. The label eventually disbanded but Boots has stayed true to his mission of making dance tracks that can’t be confined to one style. Pete blends the music he loves -- jazz, house, funk and soul -- into songs that last longer than their runtime. Songs not just for DJs, but for everyone.

After moving back to Brooklyn, Dougherty was introduced to the beloved Anjunadeep crew. His relationship with the label and their artists has flourished, leading to his debut album First Landing (out August 4th.) It’s an album where cavernous club music meshes with classical melodies, warm harmonies, and bright and beloved melodic soundscapes riddled with soul.
Gemini Rising
Gemini Rising
Gemini Rising Is the new band project of Fiora Cutler, Lester Mendez and Marco Niemerski. The trio met in LA and felt instant chemistry, bonding over their love for 80s synth pop. Over a 12 month period split between Berlin and Los Angeles they created a full album that can be best described as retro-futuristic pop music. The emotive synth pop songwriting combined with an updated production vision on 80's new wave reminds you of something familiar while introducing you to something infectious and fresh at the same time. Releasing their first 4 track EP on June 9th, Gemini Rising will play School Night on June 19th, with their album to follow later in the year.
Yolanda Be Cool
Yolanda Be Cool
In a world of inflated egos and outrageous demands, Yolanda Be Cool, aka Bondi boys Andy
and Matt, have kept their feet on the ground and let their music do the talking.

The unavoidable worldwide number one breakthrough track, "We No Speak Americano" sold
over 5 million copies and amassed over 200 million youtube views. Their critically acclaimed
album "Ladies and Mentalmen" released on Sweat It Out / DIM MAK in 2013 featured
indigenous Australian icon Gurrumul, house royalty Crystal Waters and Barbara Tucker, soul
legend Betty Wright and US up n coming rap star Nola Darling. They even co-own/A&R for the
seminal Australian record label Sweat It Out!, home to artists such as RЖFЖS, What So Not,
Motez and many more.

In spite of the success, the boys just want to continue making people dance. The start of 2015
saw them get back in the studio with Americano collaborator DCUP and lead to the release of
their platinum selling single "Sugar Man". They swiftly followed this up with what looks to be one
of the tunes of the summer, ”Soul Makossa (Money)" which spent 5 weeks in Beatport's top 10 and was the sixth most sold House record of 2015. They make sample heavy party music that's fun for the clubs but equally at home on the radio.

They cross-over, but they don't sell out. And while they are down with playing in front of 90,000
people in Morocco as a guest of the king, they are equally at home in a small basement.
Underground cool. Pop sensibility. It's a rare combination that the guys have mastered and is
why they constantly surprise with their eclectic, housed up dj sets worldwide.

With many more tunes in the pipeline, 2016 - 2020 looks set to be even bigger than the last 5
years.
