Shopping formed in early 2013 by members Rachel Aggs (guitar), Billy Easter (bass) and Andrew Milk (drums).. They pull from a well of 70’s post-punk with a voraciousness seldom seen these days, bringing to mind the jagged aggression of Gang of Four, the voracious yelp of The Slits and the dance inducing thrust of Delta 5 and ESG, though as Pitchfork reminds, “they never sound dated or like a carbon-copy, a testament to the group’s songwriting abilities.”
The bands’ first few releases put out via their own MILK records in the UK consistently sold out within weeks, while Shopping juggled touring with repressing records to keep up with demand from record shops who couldn’t seem to get enough of their groove riding, tough talking, life-loving post-punk funk. Second album Why Choose was released on FatCat Records world wide in October 2015. The release coincided with the bands first US tour, and also sold out within a month of it’s release.
New album The Official Body was released 19th February via Fat Cat records, and has once again proved a sweeping success. Recorded over 10 days with the legendary Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice in the producer’s chair, the album retains Shopping’s minimal dance punk ethos while “amping up the party vibe”.
The band are tirelessly committed to taking their sound to new audiences and spreading the Shopping gospel, They have toured Europe eight times and completed three North American tours (two headline), securing impressive gigs along the way including main support for ESG and Gang Of Four.
Shopping’s gigs are incredibly fun and undeniably thrilling to watch. Their live shows are rallying calls to shake off the frustration, fear and self-doubt that can feel like an inescapable part of our culture. As the Quietus puts it “Live, the band emanates a self-assuredness and a commitment to contributing maximum joy to their audience”, encouraging dance as a shared cathartic release!

"As an author, educator, lifelong badass and the leader of The Bags, among many other bands, she’s been a prolific and guiding light for Chicana punks, and ... she continues that force-of-nature output with fierce songs of protest and massive shredding." - Jezebel
Alice Bag is a singer/songwriter, musician, author, artist, educator and feminist. Alice was the lead singer and co-founder of the Bags, one of the first punk bands to form during the first wave of punk rock in Los Angeles. The Bags are considered one of the key bands of the early Hollywood punk scene that centered around the Masque in 1977-78. In 1981, members of the Bags appeared as the Alice Bag Band in the seminal documentary on punk rock, The Decline of Western Civilization.
Alice went on to perform in other groundbreaking bands, including Castration Squad, Cholita, and Las Tres. She has published two books, including the critically acclaimed memoir Violence Girl in 2011 and the 2015 self-published Pipe Bomb For the Soul, based on her teaching experiences in post-revolutionary 1980's Nicaragua.
Alice's influence on popular music is highlighted in the Smithsonian exhibit, American Sabor. Alice’s self-titled debut solo album will be released on June 24th, 2016 on Don Giovanni Records. Alice Bag features all original material written by Bag and includes performances by some of her favorite LA-based musicians.
rench Vanilla is an art-punk band based in Los Angeles that regulates the dance floor with punchy bass lines, catchy sax hooks and socially engaged lyrics. They began partially driven by a desire to challenge the established SoCal music scene, dominated by a few influential (male) tastemakers, and they continue to be motivated by connecting with like-minded audiences. Originating in LA’s queer punk underground, they have become a favorite of many of LA’s prominent indie musicians, completing tours with Wavves, Joyce Manor, Girlpool and Surf Curse. The band's ideology assumes the generative nature of women’s and/or BFF’s collaboration, a message they want to spread until dude-rock ceases to be the norm. More than anything, FV wants you to have fun at their shows and they deliver impassioned performances with infectious energy and enthusiasm.
