If hip-hop is a menu, def.sound would be the vegan option. With the genre’s saturation of hardcore rappers and trap producers, def (shortened from Definitive Sound and spelled all lowercase in honor of bell hooks) wants to be your healthy alternative, feeding both the mind and spirit. Born watered and raised in South Central Los Angeles, def.sound is a producer, published poet, a community-building entrepreneur, and a contemporary hip-hop artist. He was called one of the best new artists to watch by LA Weekly and earned a spot in BBC Radio’s year-end list with his single “(A)Gain.” New music comes out later this year, so it’s about time everyone started paying attention.

Her songs have been on Ozark (Netflix), The Mindy Project (Hulu), The Fosters (ABC Family), and the film Girl on the Edge, on Showtime. Her unique singing and whistling sounds have been featured at School Night at Bardot, the Moroccan Lounge, the Echo, the Bootleg, Resident, and the Regent Theater, with press in LA Weekly, buzzbands.la and Artbound on KCET. Cassandra is also a whistler, and features this unique skill during her live shows and for the company Native Instruments. Cassandra writes from a modern woman's perspective about strength, solitude, love and disappointment, sung in sassy three part harmony. She released EP4 in December 2017, and in April 2018 she toured Asia with the Japanese rock musician Miyavi.

Kofi and Annabelle both operate with intuitive music knowledge while Hunter brought much needed technical skill, performance experience and critical input to the table.
