Diā is the project of composer-performer, Danielle Birrittella. "Reminiscent of everything from Beach House, to Slowdive, to Julee Cruise" (Pop Matters), her debut EP, Tiny Ocean, was released with MANIMAL Records and features songs produced by Joey Waronker (Beck, REM, Atoms for Peace) and Tim Carr (The Americans, HAIM).
Lauded as, "something of a nostalgic enigma with a penchant for impeccably balanced songwriting," Diā's influences of classical music, such as Baroque and French Romantics, are infused with modern experimental cinematic folk (The Line of Best Fit).
Raised on a Hindu ashram, she sang ceremonial ragas as a child, which led to classical training at NYU and CalArts. Diā performed as an opera singer throughout the U.S. and Europe; along her travels, she began experimenting with songwriting on a ukulele. Of her Tiny Ocean debut, Wonderland Magazine wrote "Diā’s command of instrumentation and lyrical delivery reveals a mature and well-rounded mind. Be prepared to revisit an old heartbreak and have fun doing so."
Diā's single ‘Covered in Light’ was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest and used as the official song for the trailer of the film, Newness. This spring, Diā is set to release her follow-up EP, Lollipop, which features surreal dreamlike covers of 1960’s pop songs
