Joan have been releasing music for less than two years, but are already exploding on to the scene with their nostalgia-inducing pop music. The band has one foot in the past and one foot in the future, dipping catchy melodies into a vat of gooey 80’s goodness and polishing until sparkly. In an interview with Billboard magazine, Joan explains this influence: “I think it comes from [listening to] our parents’ radio station growing up. We both gravitated towards a certain sound, like Michael Jackson, Prince and Don Henley. There’s just something captured in that vibe that is special to me […] What would a 1987 prom sound like?”
Their latest single “One More Touch” carries both emotion and groove: think of a combination of LANY’s vocal sensibilities with Charlie Puth’s basslines. Listeners be warned, this track is addicting: if you don’t want to be humming and tapping your foot for the rest of the day, avoid it at all costs.
